It had sounded like a great idea, a long weekend of camping in Canada's Algonquin Park. While it was quite a drive and not Karen's first overnight camping trip, it was her first trip with the new friends she'd met since she and her family had moved here.

As I neared the state border I turned off the highway

The six days I had to wait before my next "date" with Maggie Whistler were a
hazy eternity, interrupted only by a call from her at ten p.m., Tuesday.

"Bill?"

"Yes?"

"This is Maggie."  Her voice sounded husky, almost out of breath.

"Yes, Maggie.  What's on your mind?"

"You are, my love.  I'm thinking of all the things I'm going to do to you on
Saturday.  You're going to keep our date, aren't you?"
